Details	THE VIRGINIA LATINO ADVISORY BOARD TO HAVE TOWN HALL MEETING IN MACHIPONGO, VIRGINIA MACHIPONGO – The Virginia Latino Advisory Board (VLAB) invites the community to a Town Hall Meeting in Machipongo on Sunday, June 7th at 3:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Northampton Middle School Auditorium, located at 7247 Young Street, Machipongo, VA. The mission of VLAB is to advise and inform the Governor on issues important to Latino constituents, advocate for the interests, and increase awareness about the contributions made by Latinos in Virginia. The Virginia Latino Advisory Board started as a commission through an executive order in October 2003 by former Governor Mark R. Warner and became a permanent board by state statute in October 2005. Several board members will attend to discuss some of the important issues, such as health, education, public safety, and other topics of interest. VLAB believes that a well informed community is a strong and educated community. This will be the third of several Town Hall Meetings to take place throughout the Commonwealth in 2009. Other Town Hall Meetings will take place in regions such as Tidewater, Charlottesville, and Richmond. A couple meetings have already occurred in Northern Virginia. In addition to providing information to the Latino community, VLAB wants to hear from community members to ensure they represent the best interests of Latinos to the Governor. VLAB consists of 21 members appointed by the Governor, 15 of whom must be of Hispanic origin. For this board, Governor Timothy M. Contaremos con un panel integrada por miembros de esta comisión sobre los temas de salud, seguridad y otros. Recordemos que una comunidad bien informada es una comunidad más fuerte y mejor educada. Esta será la tercera reunión pública que se realizará dentro del calendario de actividades programadas para este año. Igualmente se realizarán otras reuniones en diferentes localidades con la finalidad de dar a conocer el trabajo de esta comisión, a la vez, obtener opinión de la comunidad. Esta comisión fue creada por orden ejecutiva en octubre de 2003 por el ex Gobernador Mark R. Warner, y posteriormente el 15 de octubre de 2005 fue reconocida por ley y convertida en una comisión permanente. VLAB está constituida por 21 miembros nombrados por el Gobernador del Estado, do los cuales 15 deben ser de origen hispana. La comisión se creó en reconocimiento al rápido crecimiento de nuestra comunidad tanto a nivel estatal como nacional. En la actualidad, el Gobernador Timothy M. Kaine oficialmente mantiene un enlace latino que, entre otros esfuerzos, trabaja coordinadamente para atraer más latinos al servicio público y crear una unión de trabajo más sólida entre el gobierno de Virginia y la comunidad.
