Please be aware of HB 358 Required FOIA Notice (see full text at: http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?ses=041&typ=bil&val=hb358&Submit=Go). The bill requires FOIA rights and responsibilities to be posted on state public entities’ Websites beginning July 1, 2004.

The FOIA Advisory Council has developed a template outlining FOIA rights and responsibilities in compliance with House Bill 358. For agencies to comply with HB 358 they must:

  • Identify a person to be the FOIA ombudsmen
  • Fill in the requested information in [brackets] found in the template, including the ombudsmen’s contact information
  • Post this template on agency Websites on July 1, 2004. The tricky part about the bracketed info is that they need to name a person as a FOIA “ombudsmen” and provide contact info for that person.

If you have questions about the information you may contact the Attorney General’s Office.
