I am reposting this message in accordance with the suggestion of Cheri Pierson Yecke and at the same time, I added two web sites.

I have found three mathematics web sites that may be helpful to teachers and students:

1. Minnesota Basic Skills Test in Mathematics Page (Basic Mathematics)

This site contains some good online quizzes and
tests prepared by Rob Rumppe and Bill Towne of Minneapolis Public Schools. The name of the page is: "Minnesota Basic Skills Test in Mathematics Page." Good practical math is presented in test
#1 that could be used by middle school students and others. The test emphasizes estimation and the ones that I saw, were practical word problems. When you take the test, your score is continually displayed at the top. It gives you excellent feedback.

Recommend middle school teachers, home schoolers and GED teachers use this test for skills practice.

You can reach this site by using the following address:

http://www.pconline.com/~townew/standards.htm

2. The 2nd site is called the Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools K-12.
This site requires you to have the Acrobat Reader which you can download if you don't already have it on your machine. I looked at grades 8 through 12 (Algebra I through Calculus). The multiple choice problems in Algebra I and II are very similiar to what one would expect to see on Virginia SOL tests.

You can access this site by the following address:

http://www.cde.ca.gov/cilbranch/eltdiv/mathfw.htm

3. The third site is the Washington University Math Department Home Page.

This site offers three placement exams designed to see if a student is ready for Calculus I, Calculus II or Calculus III. The exams are said to require about two hours each. Most Calulators are permitted except the TI-92 which has some built-in Calculus features.
The address for this site is:

Loyd:

Thank you for reposting this information. Those individuals looking for math-related resources should have an easier time finding them this way.
