I am currently a member of the Monarch Watch project out of the University of Kansas. It is dedicated to the study and tracking of Monarchs--their life cycle and the migration. Monarch Watch has developed a curriculum package for elementary school teachers; they are currently seeking teachers who might be interested in keying the Monarch Watch lessons to state standards in all states.

I have offered to work on correlation of the package to Virginia's SOL's, but, as I am a high school teacher, I am sure I could benefit from the assistance of one or more elementary school teachers.

If you are interested in helping with this project, please contact me via e-mail. I haven't received the curriculum package yet, so I am not sure how many lessons there are. I will be happy to pass along information as I get it!

Cheers!

Carrie

I just added a fabulous book to my collection of children's nonfiction:

An Extraordinary Life: The Story of a Monarch Butterfly
by Laurence Pringle

This is an extraordinary book. It just won this years Orbis Pictus Award . . . an award for nonfiction sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English. It you don't have this it, you definately need to get it ASAP!
