When you first arrive at the My Virginia Home Page, you will get a default layout and a message in the left column that says:

Important Message:
You have not personalized your "My Virginia Homepage" yet. Personalize my page now.

In order to first personalize your page, click on either the "Personalize my page" link in the Important Message, or click on the "Personalize Your Page" tab at the top of the page. You can also update your preferences using the "Personalize Your Page" tab.

Step 1
When you first get to the preferences page, you will see three "Update" options and a link that takes you back to your personalized page. The first time you set up your page you will have to pick the "Update user information" option. This will allow you to enter your name and e-mail address into the system. This information is used to tell the difference between your personalized page and any other user's personalized page.

Step 2
The next step is to choose and configure your channels and links, which you would do by clicking on the "Update channels and links" option. Here you will be given a list of channels, or subjects, that you want to show up on your personalized page. Add as many channels as you want by selected the box next to the heading. When you've selected all the channels you're interested in, click "Proceed." Don't worry if you change your mind, as you can add or delete channels at any time after by selecting the "Personalize Your Page" tab.

After selecting your channels, you will be asked for more specific information regarding your choices. In most cases you will be asked to choose between just displaying the first few links in a section (ranked by an importance factor determined by the application) or specific links. Depending on the links you choose, you may be prompted for additional information, like meetings to keep track of in the Commonwealth Calender or your address for the Polling Place Look-Up.

Step 3
After you've selected your channels and links, you have the option of updating other preferences, like layout color. Click on the "Update other options" to be prompted for any additional choices.

Step 4
When you've completed updating your other options, click on the link "Back to My Virginia Homepage" to go to your completed personalized web page.
