Service of Process (SOP) Preview:

STEP 1
After you log into Online Service of Process, the first screen you will see gathers Case Information.

STEP 2
For detailed instructions on how to fill out the form, click the link to "Instructions" found at the bottom of each screen.
Data fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required.

STEP 3
If you make an error in filling out the form or omit a required data field, the system will not allow you to submit your form.

STEP 4
The next screen gathers Plaintiff Information. You may enter as many plaintiffs as you like. When you finish entering the last plaintiff, click Enter Defendant.

STEP 5
The next screen gathers Defendant Information. You may enter as many defendants as you like. Please have the
certified mail number handy before you fill out this screen. The certified mail number is a required field. You
may add an internal tracking number for your convenience. The internal tracking number is an optional field. When
you finish entering the last defendant, click Finish.

STEP 6
By clicking Finish, you will be taken to a screen that lets you manage your service of process filings. You may add
a new service of process and delete and add cases, plaintiffs, and defendants. When your service of process
information is complete, click the Pay box in front of each case you wish to file.

STEP 7
For those users paying by credit card, the next screen takes you to a billing screen where you must enter your credit
card number and related payment information. Hit the submit button only once. VI subscribers to online
service of process (payment option 1) will not get this screen. All service of process filers should print a copy of
their receipt to verify that payment has been made.

STEP 8
After all data is entered and payment is made, the online filing system will generate a correct and complete affidavit for
each defendant that filed. Filers are prompted to print the affidavit, affix necessary "wet" signatures, and deliver the
original affidavit and one copy, along with one copy of the notice or process papers, to the Secretary of the
Commonwealth. A copy of the receipt verifying payment, printed in Step 7 above, should be included for each defendant
to be served. ALL SERVICE OF PROCESS FILINGS SHOULD BE DELIVERED TO THE SECRETARY OF THE
COMMONWEALTH WITHIN 5 BUSINESS DAYS OF YOUR ONLINE FILING.
