Virginia Interactive has managed Virginia.gov since 1998 – winning first place in Best of the Web twice and placing as a finalist every year eligible to compete.

Background

In 1997 under the competitively bid Public Procurement Act, the Commonwealth of Virginia awarded Virginia Interactive a contract to streamline and enhance the ways in which citizens and businesses access government information. From 1997 – 2003, Virginia Interactive was branded as the Virginia Information Providers Network, (VIPNet) with oversight from an advisory board, the VIPNet Authority. In 2003, the VIPNet Authority was abolished by legislation in the General Assembly, and the VITA – Virginia Information Technologies Agency assumed management of Virginia Interactive’s contract and priorities.

Virginia Interactive is managed by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA).
