Virginia.gov uses Google for the state portal search technology. Through Virginia.gov’s partnership with Google, government entities can implement site-specific Google-based search services at no cost. Virginia.gov’s service includes implementation and site indexing assistance.
Google search results are returned in a very understandable format for citizens. The efficient indexing of web content ranks pages by relevance and popularity. Google's search technology overcomes many of the inconsistencies found with some of the current taxonomies used to organize websites.
Partner Testimonial
We are exceptionally pleased with the Google search engine we have been using on our public site since July, 2005. It is so thorough, in fact, that it has helped us identify some problem areas such as long-forgotten files and ineffective Web page identification practices. Fortunately, we are conducting a site redesign and will be able to correct problems the search has helped us identify. We expect the Google search to be an important tool in other ways in our redesign process as well. - Jere Kittle, Virginia Department of Education, Web Editor.
