Journey Through Justice Interactive Website

Overview:
Journey through Justice Website

The Supreme Court of Virginia and Virginia Interactive have worked together to develop the prototype for an educational website, Journey Through Justice.

This website will interactively explore the role and function of the judiciary and the judicial system.  By highlighting the path that specific Virginia trial and appellate cases followed through the various stages of the Commonwealth’s court system, Journey Through Justice will provide a means for students and educators to understand the purpose and function of all of the components at every level of Virginia’s judicial system, as well as these elements’ relationship to each other.

Description:

Journey Through Justice will deepen students’ and educators’ appreciation of the unique role that the Commonwealth of Virginia has played in the establishment of the American judicial system and rule of law in the United States.  Utilizing state of the art web technology, the fully realized Journey Through Justice website will contain text, video, audio and other interactive elements to critically engage students and teachers as they explore the website. Teacher resources will be available on the website to enhance classroom curriculum, while student forums will provide a moderated environment for the exchange of ideas throughout the Commonwealth.

Benefits:

  • Time
Reduces research time for teachers - Teachers are provided with a wealth of trial and appellate case-related information to use for lesson plans, mock trials and homework assignments, reducing research time and increasing instructional time.

  • Resources
One Stop Shop - This educational website is targeted to both middle school to high school students and teachers, and contains a wealth of primary and secondary resource materials.
  • Money
Saves Paper - The Journey Through Justice Website is totally web-based and interactive, thus eliminating the need for producing multiple classroom resource materials. Example of savings:  The average classroom textbook costs $70.00* x a classroom of 20 students = $1,400.00 saved!

  • “Green”
Saves Paper - Journey through Justice is totally web-based and interactive, thus reducing the need for paper.  Example of savings:  The average classroom textbook contains approximately 200 pages.  If 100 students (middle to high school) were assigned to learn about the judicial system, 20,000 pages of paper would be eliminated, which is the equivalent of two (2) trees!
