The Cost Share Survey and Planning Grant program assists localities with their preservation planning goals and initiatives. An annual competitive grant program, Cost Share provides a matching grant (typically 50%) to localities interested in pursuing such activities as historic resource surveys, state and national register nominations, and preservation plans. To support local governments, DHR provides all the administrative functions for the selected projects including the procurement of qualified professionals, review of prepared materials to ensure they meet quality standards, and all financial requirements. Typical products include new and updated architectural surveys and documentation, research reports with recommendations for additional preservation planning efforts, and nominations for state and national historic register. Additionally, a project’s results can be used to support local planning activities and effective heritage tourism programs.
