The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) works to conserve, protect, enhance and advocate wise use of the commonwealth's unique natural, historical, recreational, scenic and cultural resources.

Agency Info

DCR authors the state's most comprehensive land planning, conservation and recreation document, the Virginia Outdoors Plan. The plan details outdoor recreation needs, issues and priorities, includes models for multi-purpose land use and sustainable development, and spells out long-term recommendations on state and planning district levels. DCR also manages the state's Scenic Rivers Program and provided to localities planning and recreation resources technical assistance and grants.
